Domaine Viticole Pundel-Hoffeld

Claude Pundel, a passionate and experienced winemaker, is the responsible manager of the two family estates that today cultivate about 14 hectares of vineyards. Since 2002, he is the self-marketing owner of Domaine viticole Pundel-Hoffeld, which originated in Machtum in the 19th century and until then was run by his parents.

In 2008, he took up the challenge of maintaining and marketing, in parallel with his own vineyards, those of his uncle, who until that time was responsible for the Caves Pundel-Err.

We are therefore dealing with 2 wineries whose products remarkably reflect the diversity of the terroir of the Riesling community; knowing that Riesling is considered the king of wines. They also represent almost the entire range of wines that are currently allowed to be planted in the Luxembourg Moselle.

The range of Caves Pundel-Err, whose wines are vinified and marketed separately in the cellars of Pundel-Hoffeld in Machtum, includes mainly various Riesling cuvées, but also Elbling, Rivaner, Auxerrois, Pinot Blanc (Pinot Blanc), Pinot Gris (Pinot Gris) and 2 different Crémants: Cuvée Pundel-Err Riesling brut (pure Riesling) and Cuvée Fleuron Pundel-Err brut (Riesling, Auxerrois).
In addition to the above-mentioned grape varieties, Pundel-Hoffeld also offers Chardonnay, Muscat Ottonel, Gewürztraminer, Gris de Gris, Pinot Noir and Saint Laurent. Exceptional cuvées such as Rivaner 89 Oechsle, Vin de la Barrique, Rive Rose and Blanc de Noir complete the selection.
Lovers of fine sparkling wines are sure to find their favorite among the crémants made with a lot of passion by Claude: Cuvée Pundel-Hoffeld brut (Pinot Blanc, Riesling, Auxerrois), Cuvée Prestige brut (Pinot Blanc, Riesling, Auxerrois, Chardonnay), Cuvée 50e Anniversaire brut (Pinot Blanc, Riesling, Auxerrois), Cuvée Louis (Muscat Ottonel, Gewürztraminer, Riesling), Cuvée Pinot Noir rosé brut (Pinot Noir pur) and Cuvée Barrel 001 brut (Pinot Noir, Auxerrois). For more than 10 years, he has participated rather regularly in the " Concours National des Crémants " held in France and Luxembourg, and his lively cuvées have proven several times that they are not to be underestimated competitors on the international scene.
From the beginning, Claude Pundel has been a member of the " Charta Luxembourg ", which was created shortly after the turn of the century by the private winegrowers in Luxembourg. The aim of this charter is to offer customers excellent quality wines, in respect of the strict rules that the winegrowers have imposed on themselves. Here are some examples : the charter vineyard must be located in the best slope and climate class, the maximum yield of 60 hl/ha must not be exceeded and charter wine is a natural wine, i.e. it must not be enriched with sugar, nor acidified or de-acidified. Both wineries have registered a charter vineyard and each planted with Riesling: Ahn Palmberg for Pundel-Hoffeld and Wormeldange Elterberg for Pundel-Err.
Claude Pundel is particularly concerned about the following factors : integrated viticulture, careful vineyard management, controlled yields, waiting for the most favorable harvest date according to the maturity of the grapes, manual selection, setting the best bottling date taking into account the respective ripening process of the wines. His motivation is the will to guarantee wines with optimal development process and good storage potential.
