Volpolo 2018 - Podere Sapaio - Bolgheri/Tuscany

Inky-dark cherry red with violet hues and strong viscosity, Podere Sapaio Volpolo Bolgheri DOC makes an impressive presence. The animating, inviting bouquet is lush, full, dense, thick, dark, powerful, open, spicy, fresh and cool; all the while refined, layered and elegant. Dark plum, blueberry, blackberry, black cherry, bird cherry, cassis and citrus (especially orange) meet chocolate, brittle, caramel, jasmine, pressed violet, spicy herbs, dried sage, green pepper, vanilla, cinnamon, cumin, mint, eucalyptus, tobacco, cigar box, graphite, crushed rock, ash, cedar, oak, vegetal hints, subtle toasted notes and cellar and fermentation aromas.

The palate continues elegant, harmonious and balanced; round and soft; fresh and juicy; firm, full-bodied, intense, concentrated, complex, rich, generous and expressive. The red wine convinces with powerful body, opulent and at the same time velvety texture, great structure, lively fruit acidity - and with silky, polished, grippy, ripe, nicely integrated tannins. The aromas familiar from the nose are complemented by cassis jam, mocha and a touch of spiciness. You can especially look forward to the taut, driving, long, juicy, velvety-smooth finish - with fresh fruit acidity, prominent minerality, oak and fragrant herbs.

This is a supertuscan at its finest - blending the finesse and complexity of French varietals with the strengths of Tuscan terroir to create a value-for-money wonder that can easily compete with great Bolgheris costing ten times as much!
