Local train with the Class 194

On the Geislinger Steige
Who doesn't know them, the powerful freight locomotives of Class 194? Built from 1940, they were long considered the optimal workhorses in heavy freight service. It wasn't until May 1988 that the last specimens were retired by DB. Before that, the massive six-axle locomotives with their distinctive front ends performed countless push-pull duties on the slopes of the mid-mountains, such as at the Geislinger Steige, which can look back on 175 years of rail traffic in 2025. In addition to the push-pull operation there, which ended in 1987, the schedule for the 194 also included more leisurely tasks in local transport. Suddenly, these heavyweights were pulling n-cars, better known as "Silberlinge," because the car bodies were made of brushed stainless steel and featured a striking, shiny silver peacock eye pattern. Between 1958 and 1980, about 5,000 specimens were produced. Later, they received the current color scheme from DB Regio. Today, they are no longer in service. It's all the more delightful when a 194 can be seen on the layout making its rounds with two or three Silberlinge at the hook. Just like back then at the Geislinger Steige.
