Description
Unloading Master OOt Oldenburg
There was a spirit of optimism in the Roaring Twenties. After the inflation, the economy boomed and things were looking up. This was accompanied by a steadily growing appetite for energy, which at the time was almost exclusively satisfied by domestic coal. The railway was responsible for fast and cost-effective transportation. However, it soon reached its limits. With the traditional open freight cars, which had to be loaded and unloaded in a labor-intensive and expensive manner, it became increasingly difficult to transport the required quantities cost-effectively. Therefore, the Deutsche Reichsbahn developed the self-dumping wagons of the OOt Oldenburg type in the early 1920s, which could be loaded in a train formation and, above all, automatically unloaded at power plants. With their groundbreaking technology and a capacity of 75 m3, these vehicles proved so effective that this basic design is still considered standard in bulk material transport today. The new Märklin models remind us of the time when coal trains particularly symbolized the dawn of a new railway era. They can be paired on the layout with then ultra-modern electric locomotives, but also with heavy freight steam locomotives, some of which date back to the era of the regional railways. The fascination of model railways in its purest form.
Prototype: 10 four-axle large-capacity self-dumping wagons of the OOt Oldenburg design from the Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft (DRG). Version with end brake platform and handwheel at one end of a wagon, as well as end signal supports on the upper body. Representation of the steering axles. Used for coal transport. Operational condition at the end of the 1920s/beginning of the 1930s.
