The universal screw is the ultimate all-rounder in the SPAX range. It can do almost anything - for example, it can be screwed into softwoods like spruce and pine as well as into common wood-based panels (MDF, particleboard, and OSB boards) without the annoying need for pre-drilling. Our universal screw showcases its superiority especially in interior construction and furniture making, but it is also usable outdoors with the appropriate corrosion protection. Thanks to its unique thread geometry, the insertion resistance when screwing is significantly lower than with conventional screws, which not only saves your energy and nerves but also extends the battery life of your screwdriver. Splitting of the wood near the edge is almost completely prevented. The special force engagement - T-STAR plus - is a so-called internal hexagon. Compared to less precise drive types like Philips or Pozidriv, the surface area of engagement with our T-STAR plus increases exponentially, and the T-STAR plus bits always fit perfectly in the screw head. The resulting optimal, precise transfer of power from the screwdriver to the screw via T-STAR plus allows for simple and extremely quick work, and it is significantly more efficient than with any other drives. The countersunk head (or flat countersunk head) is the most commonly used head geometry in the SPAX universe. It has a conical shape and is designed as a 90°-MULTI head at SPAX. Our countersunk screws offer the best compromise between maximum resistance against head pull-out forces and a discreet, attractive fastening. With its polygonal underside (pockets), the countersunk head mills its own recess in the wood, allowing it to be optimally sunk into the wood without additional countersinking of the screw hole, and it then sits flush with the surface. In contrast to partial threads, the full thread on most of our full-thread screws extends over the entire or nearly the entire length from the tip to the head. The more thread turns a screw has, the greater the tensile and compressive forces it can withstand. We take advantage of this especially in structural timber construction, where full-thread screws are used for high-load wood connections. While the tips of conventional screws are simply pointed, our SPAX features the S-tip, which offers a special detail. The S-tip is characterized by a wave profile that extends into the front thread flanks. When you place the screw and start the cordless screwdriver, this thread immediately grips the wood and effortlessly pulls the screw into it. This allows for incredibly fast work without scratching the workpiece due to slipping screw tips. For constructions in non-exposed outdoor areas, effective corrosion protection for the screws is essential. Here, SPAX has developed WIROX, a coating that is superior to conventional galvanizing in terms of protection and durability. Screws coated with WIROX are significantly more resistant to mechanical stress than their yellow chromated counterparts. WIROX does not use chromium (VI), meaning the screws remain just as load-bearing even after years in non-directly exposed outdoor environments, and they are also completely environmentally friendly. Our WIROX screws are the first choice for all open constructions without direct weather exposure, such as carports or pergolas, but for particularly strong weather exposure, such as in terrace areas, we still recommend our stainless steel screws.
