Class 2062 diesel locomotive in green paint scheme of the Austrian Federal Railways.
■ With a digital shunting coupler for more play fun
■ Die-cast zinc motor front end and transmission block, therefore more dead weight and high tractive effort
■ Finely detailed design with many plug-in parts and free-standing grab irons
■ Prototypical light and sound functions can be switched by means of an onboard decoder
■ Free view through the simulated engineer's cab
■ With buffer capacitor for uninterrupted power supply
In order to replace the costly and labor-intensive steam locomotives in shunting service, the Austrian Federal Railways procured a series of 400-hp diesel locomotives of the 2062 series starting in 1958. The Jenbacher Werke in Tyrol built a total of 65 of these two-axle small diesel locomotives until 1966.
With its conspicuous cast-iron front shields serving as ballast weights, the locomotive was used throughout Austria in shunting and construction train service. On the branch lines of Lower Austria, these locomotives were found in front of passenger trains with one to two cars. The last locomotives retired from normal service in 2003. However, some of them are still in service today as works and construction locomotives with the series designation X262.
