Equipped with a 64-bit quad-core Arm Cortex-A76 processor running at 2.4 GHz, Raspberry Pi 5 offers a 2-3x increase in CPU performance compared to Raspberry Pi 4, along with a significant boost in graphics performance from an 800 MHz VideoCore VII GPU, dual 4Kp60 display output via HDMI, and state-of-the-art camera support from a newly developed Raspberry Pi Image Signal Processor, providing a smooth desktop experience for consumers and opening the door to new applications for industrial customers.

The Raspberry Pi 5 is the first time a module developed by Raspberry Pi itself has been used in a full-size Raspberry Pi computer. The RP1 Southbridge" provides the majority of the I/O functions of the Raspberry Pi 5 and significantly improves the performance and functionality of the peripherals. The overall USB bandwidth has been more than doubled, resulting in faster transfer speeds to external UAS drives and other high-speed peripherals; the dedicated two-lane 1Gbps MIPI camera and display interfaces of previous models have been replaced by a pair of four-lane 1. 5Gbps MIPI transceivers, tripling the total bandwidth and supporting any combination of up to two cameras or displays; doubling the peak performance of SD cards by supporting SDR104 high-speed mode; and for the first time, the platform features a single-lane PCI Express 2.0 interface that provides support for high-bandwidth peripherals.
