Description
Generate electricity on your balcony, terrace, shed or garden – it's that easy
Take charge of the energy transition: With a balcony power plant you can generate your own electricity on your terrace or balcony. It's simple, lowers costs, protects the environment – and it's pretty cool.
Energy prices are rising to dizzying heights, and there seems to be no end in sight. You can either complain or become a power producer yourself. With your own small power plant, even tenants can turn their balcony or terrace into a power factory for little money. No contracts and no extra meters – a balcony power plant can simply be plugged into the outlet. We explain how it works, what options you have, and what to watch out for.
A solar power plant is exactly what the name says: a small, private power plant that takes up little space and fits on the balcony, flat roof or terrace. Photovoltaic modules are used, which can often be mounted easily on a railing or on the facade. This way no usable space is lost. The solar system can also simply be placed in the garden.
The output of the small energy generators usually ranges between 300 and 800 watts.
The PV modules (usually one to four units) are then fed into the home electrical circuit with a micro-inverter directly via a Schuko socket (or Wieland). Very simple in a "Plug-and-Play-Prinzip". The micro-inverter is important because the solar array produces DC, which for the home grid must first be converted to 230V AC at the appropriate frequency of 50Hz.
Especially tenants for whom a large-area installation of solar panels on the entire roof is not feasible are interested in a balcony power plant. Because they can easily offset a portion of their electricity costs. After the legal regulation for such systems was somewhat unclear in the past, private electricity generation in this way is today completely legal under certain conditions.
Rising energy prices currently make it particularly tempting to free yourself from dependence on the electricity supplier at least partly through private electricity generation.
A single solar module with a micro-inverter is available from 381 euros.
Balcony power plants with one module mounted on an aluminum frame cost from 480 euros.
Balcony power plants with two or more modules mounted on an aluminum frame cost from 950 euros.
It can take three to four years to recoup these costs – i.e., until the system pays for itself – depending on sun exposure and electricity costs. The system will, however, continue to reliably generate power for many more years. For PV modules, the manufacturer provides a 20-year performance warranty.
Bottom line: the installation is worth it!
A balcony power plant is connected to your power grid via the normal Schuko plug (or Wieland plug). Some network operators may not like the connection via Schuko plug, but technically there is nothing against it.
Just plug into the outlet using a normal extension cord and you will save electricity immediately.
2 x 450Wp (Watt-peak) modules + 2x micro-inverters + 230VAC Schuko plug. Several modules can be easily connected together.
20-year performance warranty on the PV panels.
