Description
Generating electricity on your balcony, terrace, shed, or garden – it's that easy.
Take control of the energy transition: With a balcony power plant you can generate your own electricity on your terrace or balcony. It's easy, lowers costs, protects the environment – and it's pretty cool.
Electricity prices are rising to dizzying heights, and there seems to be no end in sight. You can either complain or become a power producer yourself. With your own small power plant, tenants can turn their balcony or terrace into a power factory for a small price. No contracts and no additional electricity meters – you can simply plug a balcony power plant into the socket. We'll explain how it works, what options you have, and what you should watch out for.
A solar power plant is exactly what the name says: a small, private power plant that doesn't take up much space and fits on a balcony, flat roof, or terrace. Photovoltaic modules are used, which can often be mounted quite easily on a railing or on the facade. This way no usable space is lost. The solar installation can also be placed in the garden.
The output of these small energy producers is typically between 300 and 800 watts.
The PV modules (usually one to four pieces) are then fed into the home electrical circuit from the balcony power plant using a microinverter directly via a Schuko socket (or Wieland). Simple as the "Plug-and-Play-Prinzip". The microinverter is important because the solar installation produces direct current, which for the home grid must first be converted to 230 V AC at the appropriate 50 Hz frequency.
In particular, tenants for whom a full-roof solar installation isn't feasible may find balcony power plants interesting. Because they can easily offset a portion of their electricity costs. Since the legal rules for such systems used to be a bit unclear, private electricity generation this way is now legal under certain conditions.
The rising energy prices make it especially tempting right now to break away from dependence on the energy provider by generating your own electricity.
A single solar module with a microinverter is available from €381.
Balcony power plants with one module mounted on an aluminum frame start at €480.
Balcony power plants with two or more modules mounted on an aluminum frame start at €950.
It can take three to four years to recoup these costs – i.e., until the system pays for itself – depending on sunlight and electricity costs. But the system will continue to generate power reliably for many more years. For photovoltaic modules, the manufacturer provides a 20-year performance warranty.
Bottom line: the installation is worth it!
A balcony power plant is connected to your electrical grid via the usual Schuko plug (or Wieland plug). Some grid operators don’t like the connection via Schuko plug, but technically there is nothing against it.
Just plug it into the socket using a standard extension cord, and you’ll save electricity immediately.
1 x 450Wp (Watt-peak) module + microinverter + 230 VAC Schuko plug. Several modules can be easily wired together.
20-year performance warranty on PV panels.
