Description

Generating electricity on the balcony, terrace, shed, or garden – it's that easy

Do the energy transition yourself: With a balcony power plant you can generate electricity on your terrace or balcony. It's simple, lowers costs, protects the environment – and it's pretty cool.

Electricity prices are rising to dizzying heights, and there is no end in sight for the time being. You can either complain or become a power producer yourself. With your own small power plant, tenants can turn their balcony or terrace into a power factory for a small amount of money. No contracts and no additional electricity meters – a balcony power plant can simply be plugged into the socket. We'll explain how it works, what options you have, and what to watch out for.

A solar power plant is exactly what the name says: a small, private power plant that takes up little space and fits on the balcony, flat roof, or terrace. Photovoltaic modules are used, which can often be easily mounted on a railing or the façade. This way, no usable space is lost. The solar installation can also be placed easily in the garden.

The output of small energy generators is typically between 300 and 800 watts.

The PV modules (usually one to four pieces) are then fed into the home electrical system directly via a Schuko plug (or Wieland). Simple in the \"Plug-and-Play-Prinzip\". The microinverter is important because the solar system produces direct current, which for the home grid must first be converted to 230V alternating current with the appropriate frequency of 50Hz.

Especially tenants for whom a full-surface installation of solar panels on the entire roof is not feasible will find a balcony power plant interesting. Because they can easily offset a portion of their electricity costs. After the legal regulation for such systems was somewhat unclear in the past, private electricity generation this way is today completely legal under certain conditions.

The rising energy prices currently make it especially tempting to at least partly free oneself from dependence on the electricity provider through private electricity generation.

  • A single solar module with microinverter is available from 381 euros.

  • Balcony power plants with one module mounted on an aluminum frame cost from 480 euros.

  • Balcony power plants with two or more modules mounted on an aluminum frame cost from 950 euros.

It can take three to four years to recoup these costs – i.e., until the system pays for itself – depending on sunlight and electricity costs. But the system also reliably generates electricity for many more years. For photovoltaic modules, the manufacturer provides a 20-year performance guarantee.

Bottom line: the installation pays off!

A balcony power plant is connected to your electrical grid via the standard Schuko plug (or Wieland plug). Some grid operators do not like the connection via Schuko plug, but technically there is nothing against it.

Just plug it into the outlet with a regular extension cord and you save electricity immediately.

1 x 450Wp (Watt-peak) module + 1x microinverter + 1x frame + 230VAC Schuko plug. Several modules can be easily connected together.

20-year performance guarantee on the PV panel.
