Toyota and rallying have a long love story! Long before the Celica ST (165, 185 and 205) or the Yaris WRC, the Japanese brand was already impressing on rally stages. At the end of the 1970s, Toyota offered talented Nordic drivers a Celica RA21. Hannu Mikkola was one of these drivers in the 1977 season. The flying Finn retired five times in a row, and the Celica's mechanics were mainly responsible for these disappointments. But at the already legendary RAC Rally, Mikkola managed to finish the race. At the final event of the season, he gave Toyota a fine podium finish, which enabled the Japanese brand to move into the Top 3 in the manufacturers' standings.
