Description

Nikka YOICHI Single Malt
This Yoichi bottling is today the only representative of Nikka's historical single malt. A blend of whiskies of different ages, it expresses a subtle balance between smoky, fruity and floral aromas.
The first distillery of the Nikka house, Yoichi is located on the coast of Hokkaido, the northernmost island of Japan. Produced according to traditional methods, such as direct toasting over charcoal, the malts perfectly display the authentic character of this exceptional place with their marine and fine peaty notes.
Profile: balanced. Peat, smoke, nutmeg, dried fruits and chocolate. This coveted title awarded twice (in 2002 and 2008) at the World Whiskies Awards to the Yoichi single malt was a shock for the Scottish distillers, and a revelation for many amateurs. The Yoichi distillery, located 1km from the Sea of Japan, produces a whisky with salty and slightly medicinal notes, similar to the Scottish whiskies of the Isle of Islay. Yoichi has its own cooperage and takes particular care in the selection of the casks, made on the spot from new oak, a practice now rare in Scotland.
