The crested tit is common in Europe. The tit is particularly recognizable by its magnificent crest, which still rises when excited. Crested tits are fairly territorial birds, remaining on their breeding grounds all year round. Only young birds form itinerant groups during winter. In spring, they go in search of a territory, where they will remain for the rest of their lives. The crested tit feeds mainly on insects, but in winter also on conifer seeds and hawthorn or rowan berries.
