To mark the 1050th anniversary of the city of Luxembourg, Luxembourg artist Serge Ecker designed a monumental enamelled concrete sculpture depicting the legendary figure of Mélusine, revisited with a touch of modernity, which is a masterpiece in the capital's artistic history.
Installed on the banks of the River Alzette, opposite the Church of Saint Jean du Grund and Neumünster Abbey, it has become one of the major works of art in Luxembourg's urban landscape.
The Mélusine is directly linked to the origins of the House of Luxembourg and to Count Siegfried, who in 963 built the kingdom's first castle on the "Bock" rock. This rock is not only the mythical birthplace of the city of Luxembourg, but also the kingdom of the nymph Melusina.
