Meat maggots

Flesh maggots are the fly larvae of the flesh flies (Sarcophagidae). Worldwide there are about 2500 species of flesh flies, of which about 10 species are found in Germany. The flesh maggots we offer are from the Italian species Calliphora vomitoria. The flies themselves feed on various juices, for example from fruits or trees. The larvae, on the other hand, feed on carrion. In the first stages of development, the Maden breathe exclusively through the skin and only from the third stage onwards do the anterior and posterior tracheae open. These Maden have always been a popular live bait for fishing. If you used to collect them yourself at the organic waste garbage can, today you can find farmed meat maggots in fishing stores. The meat maggots are bred in special fly houses on carrion. In the process, the Maden eat all the flesh and thus quickly develop into stately Maden. The meat maggots we offer are bred exclusively on chicken and turkey meat. Since the poultry is fed with corn, the Maden take on this coloring and thus get a slight yellow tint. This distinguishes them from other meat maggots that are fed with pork or fish meat. Their consistency is also quite firm just like maggot skin due to the special feeding. Thus, the Maden even tolerate, depending on the type of fish, the one or other bad bite. In addition, the meat maggots have a higher specific weight than meat maggots bred with other types of meat. This makes them sink quickly to the bottom, which is especially interesting for anglers fishing in flowing waters. It doesn't matter if it's for feeding or on the hook. The meat maggots are a real all-rounder on which even larger fish bite. It is not for nothing that people have been using Maden for fishing for decades. We receive fresh meat maggots weekly directly from the breeding farm in Italy. This means that we always have excellent Maden ready for sale, which can be stored for a long time and are very catchy. You just have to make sure that the meat maggots are stored appropriately. Storage at 0-2 °C is recommended. If it gets too warm, the Maden become active and generate a certain amount of their own heat through friction. From open containers they then escape quite quickly and spread everywhere. In addition, the meat maggots then tend to cast quickly. Good for anyone who wants to fish with casters, but even more annoying for anyone who needs fresh meat maggots. Due to the increased temperature, the metabolism of the Maden also gets going, so that increased ammonia is emitted. This is not only an odor nuisance, but also harmful to the Maden. As soon as the Maden crawl around in the ammonia-soaked substrate, they quickly die, as they cannot tolerate the high concentration of ammonia. Therefore, store the meat grubs very cool in dry sawdust. This absorbs the secreted ammonia and creates optimal conditions for the Maden. Apart from being used as fishing maggots, the meat maggots are also not spurned by some bird species. They are not suitable as food for other animals, such as reptiles or amphibians. On the one hand because they are bred on carrion and on the other hand because they have an acrid ammonia odor which is repulsive to many animals. However, the flesh maggots can be left to decay and the freshly hatched flies can be fed. These are capable of flight and are suitable as food for birds, reptiles and amphibians. Especially animals that need flying prey, such as some species of mantids, are well served with the flesh flies.
