Description

LGB 26390 HSB Tw diesel railcar T3 red (VT 137)

DCC Sound

In the 1930s, the then Nordhausen-Wernigerode Eisenbahn AG (NWE) intended to modernize its traction unit fleet. In addition to new steam locomotives, diesel-electric railcars were also to be purchased. After a first railcar had already been purchased in 1935, the Waggonfabrik Wismar delivered two more more powerful railcars in 1940, which were designed purely as baggage railcars. With a service weight of 32 tons, a power output of 516 hp and a top speed of 60 km/h, the two baggage railcars were slightly more powerful than the passenger railcar and could therefore carry 4 instead of 3 cars. In 1949, the Deutsche Reichsbahn took over both railcars as VT 137 565 and VT 137 566. Until the delivery of the new steam locomotives at the end of the 1950s, both railcars carried the main load of Brocken traffic together with the heavy steam locomotives of the former NWE. After that, the railcars were relegated to subordinate service. VT 137 565 was taken out of service in 1967 and scrapped at Wittenberge in 1968. VT 137 566 was given the new number 187 025 in 1970 and was withdrawn from service in the course of the 1970s. HSB took over the railcar in 1993. In 1995, it was refurbished and since then has been available again in its original condition as the T3 of the NWE for special trips. During this rebuild, the original engine was replaced by a new Cummins engine with 328 hp. Since the railcar was only used for special services and no longer as a towing vehicle, this power is fully sufficient, and spare parts for the modern engine are available at any time. At present, the railcar is on hold from repair and is scheduled for refurbishment.

Model of the T3 diesel railcar as it still exists today at the HSB. True to original red paint scheme and lettering of Era VI. Four wheel sets driven by two powerful Bühler ball bearing motors. This makes the very powerful powered rail car capable of pulling several cars - just like its larger prototype. Equipped with an mfx/DCC decoder with many light and sound functions. Interior lighting and cab lighting, switchable in digital operation. Length over buffers 64 cm.
