The prototype
The Lokalbahn Aktien-Gesellschaft (LAG) commissioned from 1905 for the line from Murnau to Oberammergau five two-axle electric locomotives, which were equipped with a crank-axle drive and reached a top speed of 50 km/h. LAG 1 to 5 were incorporated into the Reichsbahn as E 69 during nationalization in 1938. There were notable differences among the various versions.
E 69 03 „Hermine“:
To reinforce the line and due to higher traffic, not least because of the Oberammergau Passion Play, LAG 3 was procured in 1912. After the DR took over, the motor equipment was retrofitted. The overhead-line voltage was changed to 16 2/3 Hz and 15 kV, making this step necessary. In 1955 she was transferred to shunting service in Heidelberg and did not return to her main line until 1964, where she remained in service until 1982. Today she is still preserved as a museum locomotive and can currently be visited at the DB Museum Koblenz.
E 69 05 „Adolphine“:
As the last procured and strongest of the five LAG locomotives, she was put into service from 1930. She had considerably more powerful motors, a longer wheelbase and was overall longer and heavier. Therefore her front ends were noticeably higher and the overall impression more imposing. Her area of operation was especially the hauling of heavy freight trains. Until her decommissioning in 1981 she served on her home line without issues, and today remains as a museum locomotive preserved by the Bavarian Local Railway Association.
