42.40 Megapixel Backlit Full Frame Sensor
The 35mm full frame Exmor R CMOS image sensor offers 42.40 MP resolution, integrated backlight and lenses for exceptional sensitivity and dynamic range, an anti-reflective screen coating sealed into the glass on the sensor, and other innovations that unleash the power of the sensor for more lifelike images.

Optimized Image Processing Engine
The latest large-scale front-end integration system makes reading data from the image sensor about twice as fast, and the BIONZ X image processor is now 1.8 times faster. Improved image processing offers reduced noise and a wider dynamic range over a wide sensitivity range up to ISO 32,000 (standard ISO, expandable to ISO 50 - 102400 for still shots). In addition, optimized detail reproduction and noise reduction in specific areas allow for noise reduction, equivalent to one step, in the medium ISO settings. Skin tone reproduction has also been improved, which is an advantage when shooting portraits. The α7R III also supports 14-bit RAW output even for silent/streaming shooting.
