The Ae 3/6ˡ series electric locomotives were procured in several orders from 1921 to 1929. Locomotive 10664 came from the SLM and BBC workshops. Due to the long procurement period, technical innovations were also installed. As a result, the locomotive's output increased from 1,450 kW to 1,600 kW. Thanks to the good running characteristics, the maximum speed was also increased. From 1929, from 90 km/h to 100 km/h, and for the more powerful locomotives (from No. 10637) in 1937, after adjustments to the running axle bogie, to 110 km/h.

Locomotive 10664, built in 1926, was located in the Bern, Zurich and Rohrschach depots. From 1990 to 2010, it was in service as a historic traction unit of the "Eisenbahnfreunde Zürichsee rechtes Ufer". It is still housed in the Rapperswil depot as an operational historic vehicle and is the property of the SBB Historic Heritage Foundation (SBB Historic).
