For the special "dry brush technique", the individual synthetic fibers were made very short and set in a so-called silver ferrule. The silver ferrule was attached to a short black handle. Miniature painters use the so-called "dry-brush technique" for realistic depiction of rust, dirt, weathering and aging. It is also used to emphasize the grain of wood or the look of steel or fabric.
