Description

CMC Modelcars C-009 Alfa-Romeo 8C 2900 B Speciale Touring Coupe, 1938 Limited 300 pcs 1:

12N°011The

vehicle mentioned here is a one-off production, and today it is one of the showpieces in the Alfa-Romeo Museo Storico, the factory museum in Arese

, not only because the vehicle has an interesting history, but also because its appearance is spectacular and unique. And it is precisely for this reason that we have decided to produce a small, limited edition of just 300 of this extraordinary vehicle worldwide on a large scale of 1:12. To do justice to the exclusivity and value of the model, we have produced a metal body made of copper. Of course, the hood, doors and trunk lid can be opened as usual so that the engine, cockpit and trunk can be viewed.

8C 2900B was originally prepared for the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1938. For this purpose, the vehicle was given a closed body (Berlinetta) designed by body specialist Touring, which was manufactured according to aerodynamic findings in lightweight construction on the basis of the Superleggera principle (aluminum body) patented by Touring. A performance-enhanced 8-cylinder in-line engine with 220 hp and further Le Mans-specific equipment completed the racing equipment for Le Mans,

but despite a superior lead in the 24-hour race, the vehicle was not successful. A tire blowout and subsequent valve breakage put an abrupt end to what was believed to be a certain victory, and

after the race the vehicle was completely repaired and sold into private hands. At this time, it changed hands several times. In the end, the vehicle ended up in England, where it was brought back to Italy in the 1980s by the Alfa Romeo Museum "Storico" in exchange for a Grand Prix racing car of the 158 Alfetta type. "Storico" had the vehicle restored as a road-going version and gave it a dark red paint job that more closely resembled its original condition. Since then, the vehicle has captivated museum visitors as a solitaire with the status of an absolute rarity.
