The Floragard Schildkröten-Substrat is excellent for caring for reptiles, especially tortoises of all kinds in outdoor enclosures and terrariums on a natural substrate.
In collaboration with experienced tortoise keepers and breeders, this special product was developed. The Schildkröten-Substrat is a 100% natural and fertilizer-free bedding, which as a base substrate is even used in professional zoo settings. In addition to peat, the valuable clay mineral bentonite provides excellent moisture retention for the substrate, while the precisely set pH value is exactly matched to the needs of the reptiles. The peat used does not come from intact moors, but from areas that have already been used agriculturally, such as pastures. Following peat extraction, these areas are renaturalized, so that within a few years a living moor can redevelop.

The major advantages of the fertilizer-free Floragard Schildkröten-Substrat lie in its odor-free absorption of urine and excreta, without dampness or mold formation. Especially for the smooth shell development of young tortoises, a balanced moisture level is decisive.
Since there are no long-fiber components, the animals and even small hatchlings can move very well and gladly use the Schildkröten-Substrat for digging as a hiding place. Also adult females see in this bedding a suitable egg-laying site. If the Schildkröten-Substrat mixes with the food, unlike loose sand the risk of dangerous sand impaction in the gut is minimized. Even in dry state the dust generation is very low. This is especially true for turtle species kept in terrariums, another advantage for species-appropriate husbandry.
