In 1905, Rembrandt Bugatti took his mother's French Bulldog as his model and created this charming, lively sculpture, the animal tilting its head and seeming to question its mistress with its gaze. The original cast was made by the Hébrard foundry in 1905.
This is the large model, of which only 3 examples are known to date, all three signed and numbered by the artist. This signature and the Hébrard foundry stamp "A.A. Hébrard Cire Perdue" are carefully restored on this reissue of copy no. 2.
Another, smaller cast of this French bulldog was also produced in 1905, in several dozen copies, in a smaller format of 14 x 13 x 8 cm.
