Antoine-Louis Barye (1796-1875) was the undisputed master of 19th-century animal sculpture. He influenced generations of sculptors worldwide, including Frémiet, Valton, Mène and Trémont.
This art bronze bas-relief, conceived as a decorative element for a clock or marble base, was created in the 1820s and produced by various foundries during the 19th and 20th centuries. Antique castings are on display at the Musée du Louvre in Paris.
