STUMPF Nagy-Eged Kékfrankos 2017

Domaine Stumpf's vineyards stretch across the mid-slopes of Mount Nagy-Eged, Eger's legendary terroir, where the soil structure is probably the best, and - what's more - it can still retain sufficient water. The high proportion of limestone lends a fine acidity to the wines from these plots. Kékfrankos vines (blaufränkisch in Austria) adopt a denser texture, woven with compact tannins and crowned with a mineral feel, on this limestone hillock, culminating at 536 m

. This solid, rich, full-bodied red is Kékfrankos 100%. The nose is initially discreet, subtly fruity; vanilla scents from the oak reveal themselves with aeration. The palate is ripe and supple, nourished by black fruits and a spicy vegetal character, drawn out by a noble bitterness that accentuates the mineral perception. An excellent wine in the making.
