Description

The coffee is typical for a Brazilian very nutty and rich. In the Bob-o-link, however, we also find fruity nuances (wild berries & apricot) and a fine basic sweetness. A really great coffee. The coffees used for the Brazil Bob-o-Link (varieties) Mundo Novo vermelho, Mundo Novo amarello and Bourbon are among the best in the world. The coffee cherries are picked by hand at the best stage of ripeness. The coffee cherries are then professionally sun-dried.

Bob-o-Link is an association of family coffee farms on the initiative of the historic coffee farm Fazenda Ambiental Fortaleza ("Environmental Fortress") in the Mogiana Mountains of Sao Paulo State, Brazil. We've introduced you to them before on our blog. You can find the article again here.

In 1999, Marcos Croce and his family converted this farm to organic coffee cultivation in harmony with nature - symbolized by the bobolink, a migratory bird native to North and South America.

Brazil Bob-o-Link coffee originates from one of the highest coffee-growing regions in Brazil. The family farms of the producer community are each located between 900 and 1,250 meters above sea level. The coffees are not intended to be monotonous mass products - which is why the farmers strive to bring out the special characters of the different locations.

Sustainability:

The green coffees for the Bob-o-Link come from family farms that work partly organically, partly conventionally, but in long-term conversion to near-natural cultivation

.

It is becoming apparent that the conversion from 200 years of plantation farming is not happening as quickly as planned, also due to economic constraints (higher labor costs with rising wage costs, yield losses and transaction costs when converting to organic cultivation, low market prices for organic goods). We do not put our partners under pressure for this reason.

In addition to environmentally friendly coffee production, it is the declared goal of all family farms to restore the ecological balance of the original large plantation region. This includes planting rainforest trees and protecting watercourses.

Ultimately, the habitat of the bobolink, the rice starling, is also preserved.

The families use the fertile soils in the shade of rainforest trees for coffee cultivation. In addition, they show great consideration for the habitats of native animals, plants, springs and watercourses and therefore refrain from using pesticides.
In 2008, Fazenda Ambiental Fortaleza received the Sustainability Award Honorable Mention for its commitment to environmental protection.
