It is ablend of Yoichi sherry casks and Miyagikyo sherry and remade casks, and the new Nikka Taketsuru Pure Malt has an absolutely exciting freshness. Slightly peaty and salty, it is also exotic, intensely fruity, floral and spicy. If on the aromatic level, the peat gradually becomes more powerful, on the gustatory level, it essentially plays the role of a support on which all the notes of a lively score can be rested, which has raised sobriety, sincerity and generosity to the rank of universal virtues. Launched in the year of the 100th anniversary of the marriage of the founder of Nikka whisky, Masataka Taketsuru, and his Scottish wife Rita, we recommend you to taste it neat or on an ice ball which will refresh the whisky while favoring a slow dilution.
Profile: balanced, the first nose reveals notes of citrus fruits (lemon), coconut, chocolate as well as a very light and saline peat.With aeration, the peat becomes more and more intense while freshly cut grass and vanilla gradually spread over the aromatic palette. The attack in mouth is greedy (lemon pie). In the middle of the mouth, a mainly saline peat gradually sets in. It constitutes an earthy base on which fruits (apple, pear), white flowers (lily, lilac) and chocolate are deposited.   • Nose: fine, balanced. On the first nose, citrus notes (lemon, grapefruit), coconut and chocolate rub shoulders with a very light and saline peat. On aeration, the peat becomes more and more intense while freshly cut grass and vanilla delicately settle on the whole aromatic palette. Then, exotic scents of pineapple and banana confirm the ascendancy of the fruity register.
  • Mouth: ample, full-bodied. At the beginning of the mouth, a delicious lemon meringue pie is served to us on a tray. After this magnificently greedy beginning, a fine pungent peat, rather dry and especially saline, progressively sets up. It constitutes an earthy base from which notes of fruits (apple, pear), white flowers (lily, lilac), cut hay and chocolate can fully express themselves. At the very end, the malted barley shines with intensity.
  • Finish: long, elegant. At the beginning of the finish, acacia honey spreads on the palate while sweet spices (cinnamon, ginger) give it a lot of structure. Then, dried fruits (chestnut, hazelnut) emphasize the beautiful maturity that emanates from the palette of flavors. In retro olfaction, cut hay, licorice and milk chocolate constitute a very harmonious taste. The empty glass is slightly peaty, herbaceous and vanilla.
