Château Léoville Poyferré 2017

Owned by the Cuvelier family since 1920, this estate has produced great wines in the Médoc over the past 20 years. The 2017 vintage, a blend of 61% cabernet sauvignon, 27% merlot, 8% petit verdot, and 4% cabernet franc, has an opaque purple color, a thick appearance, and a bottle that is much more impressive than the barrel. This very extracted, rich, full-bodied, and masculine Léoville Poyferré needs a good bottle aging of 5 to 8 years and should evolve well for at least 20 to 25 years. Notes of blackberry and blackcurrant, crushed stone, and graphite are present in this medium to full-bodied wine, incredibly concentrated and pure. Forget it for a while, as this is one of the biggest and richest Médocs.
