...La photo, c'est comme la poésie. «Ça» vous est offert. Une chose passe, de l'ordre de l'éphémère. Il faut être en synchronie avec. Il y a des choses, des photos que je n'ai pas l'impression d'avoir faites. La photographie constate, démontre le monde, elle ne le change pas. Je ne crois pas que l'art change le monde. Il en a juste le sens et le désir. Pour moi, la photographie doit absolument avoir ses racines dans l'instantané et, s'incorporant à lui, doit révéler une vision du monde, la synthèse de son mystère, objets et choses. Et elle n'aura de grandeur qu'au moment où elle sera capable de traduire l'authenticité de ses éléments en transit. ...Uma fotografia é como um poema. Algo que nos é concedido. Uma coisa ocorre, da ordem do efêmero. É preciso estar sincronizado com ela. Há coisas, fotografias, que tenho a impressão de não ter feito. A fotografia constata, demonstra o mundo, e não o modifica. Não acredito que a arte mude o mundo. Ela se limita a ter o sentido e o desejo de mudá-lo. Para mim, é essencial que a fotografia tenha suas raízes no instantâneo, incorporando-se a ele, que revele uma visão do mundo, a síntese de seu mistério, seus objetos e suas coisas. Ela só adquire grandeza no momento em que for capaz de traduzir a autenticidade de seus elementos transitórios. ...A photograph is like a poem. Something which is offered to us. A thing happens, something ephemeral. You have to be synchronized with it. There are things, photographs, that I have the feeling I never took. Photography takes note of the world, it shows it but doesn't change it. I don't believe art changes the world. It goes as far as meaning and wanting to change the world. To me it's essential for photography to be rooted in the instantaneous. It must merge with the instantaneous in order to reveal a vision of the world, a synthesis of its mystery, its objects and its things. And photography may only acquire greatness when it is able to convey the authenticity of the transitory elements of the world.
